We worked with the endurance racing team "Tuning Akademie" and helped them to significantly improve their aerodynamic efficiency, drivability and solve their cooling issues.

 

We analysed the flow structures around the car with self-made Flow Visualisation Paint and cotton threads. Flow separations and other problems could be identified and could be cured. The front and rear downforce was measured with laser sensors.

This work was done entirely without CFD and windtunnel testing. Instead all analyses were done under real race conditions to get a realistic picture of the flow including real life problems such as cross flow, side wind, rain, tape etc.

​

Achievements:

  • Reduction of coolant temperatures by 10K (now being able to blank inlets)

  • Curing diffuser separations

  • Reduction of rear differential temperatures by 20K

  • Improved driver cooling

  • Increased front and rear downforce

  • Increased top speed at same gear ratio and mapping (+10km/h)
